Patton Introduces Ethernet Extender for up to eight kilometers
50-Mbit Full-Duplex Ethernet Extender transmits the CopperLink 2172 up to 1.7 kilometers. At a distance of eight kilometers of the throughput is still at 144 kbit / s. The extender will cost 275 euros.

Patton Electronics has introduced the Ethernet Extender CopperLink 2172nd With the device, the distance can be between two active Ethernet components according to the manufacturer at 50 Mbit / s in each direction, extending to 1.7 kilometers. Who a lower throughput (144 Kbps) readily accepts, can achieve up to eight kilometers.
The Ethernet cable length is limited technically to 100 meters. Often this is not enough to connect IP devices such as VoIP phones, network cameras or sensors, or involve jobs in remote buildings in the LAN. Patton positioned its “Copper Link Ethernet Booster” as an alternative to installation of hubs, switches, microwave or fiber-optic cables.
The Extender is connected through the RJ-45 connector through an Ethernet cable to the LAN or the device to be terminal. They communicate with each other via a twisted-pair cable. The transfer is transparent to higher protocols. 802.1Q (VLAN) is supported.
At the front three LEDs indicate the status of power supply, the physical connection and the Ethernet connection. The extender itself can be operated either with DC or AC. The price of Copper Link 2172 is 275 euros. He is in Germany on the company Allnet and Plug-In Electronics sold.
