Canada recall Chinese-made battery

December 9, 2009, the Canadian Department of Health and Coby Electronics jointly announced that they voluntarily recall the rechargeable batterieson Coby Portable DVD/CD/MP3 players made in China(not including the Digital Camera Battery).

The recalled rechargeable batteries were sold with the Coby portable DVD/CD/MP3 players , the player’s screen is 8.5 inches,Coby marked in the player front, Model TF-DVD-8501 standard is in the player at the bottom, the recalling involves the charger’s serial number with the letter “HY” at the beginning, and markingon a white label.The player have been Sold since January 2007 -2009 year in September in Canada, Lake Ontario and Quebec(some brand-name battery have been sold for many yrars ,for one thinig,Sony NP-FC11).

The number of the recalled batteries is about 3050 units, the recalling reason is that the charger can overheat, and can post a fire hazard. Up to now, Coby has received 10 reports of battery overheating.8 cases is the minor loss of property fire. there is no report of personal injury now .

Therefore , Health Canada advised consumers to immediately stop using the recalled batteries and contact with the Coby free replacement battery,such as Samsung Battery,Sony Battery and so on.
